Sex, Politics and A Gender War!

Writer’s note…I was originally going to link the ABC video display of the “Crush on Obama” video, but decided that I did not want to do anything to promote it.  I refuse. I have intentionally not linked the sexy politics link because I do not want to use this statement to make it easy for clicking there either.

First of all, I want to extend my apologies to Barack Obama.  Clearly the “crush on Obama” video is a degrading piece of garbage that further identifies America as not being worthy to call itself a civilized society.  We already have enough “sex” associated with politics, but to use it to promote and to link the idea that only R& B, bootie shaking starlet, wanna be’s is the way to get elected is over the top.  I do not know the totality of the whole video, nor do I know too much about the liberal movement behind sexypolitics.com, but I can assure you, I do not want to read it, I do not want to know too much about the approach to use sex as a lure.  Being informed is not sexy, people, it is smart.  What is pleasing to another person aesthetically is not always, “sexy”, actually for some the constant reference to sex is offensive!

I am ready to go away from the concept that “sex” sell.  It also kills, and distorts and destroys when it is not used appropriately.  I am embarrassed to consider myself as a Democrat, an open minded thinker when it comes to education, healthcare, economics, the government’s role, etc.   At this point I am praying that if Hillary Clinton does not get in as the Presidential candidate that a republican wins strictly because I do not know if we can handle a strong liberal front right now.  (Liberal thought is not always immoral pandering!)

Furthermore, this escapade, using a video to minimize, to attract, to defile, (what was the purpose, was it suppose to be funny, is it funny to see an overweight older gentleman hanging on a robust young woman?) the political process has made me more determined to see a woman in the White house.  It is time to stop using T&A to sell.

I found it absolutely hilarious that the sexypolitics.com actually promotes a book on Feminism, is that a joke or what?  At what point did feminism align itself with reducing women to nothing more that T&A? Or is the newest form of feminism equated to the “sex in the city” thong wearing version?

Isn’t it plausible for Obama to be elected because of experience, intellect, demeanor, conviction, character, do we have to align him so deeply with pop-culture, as in “Obamania?”  Isn’t it enough that he is worldly, a Harvard Graduate?  Do we need to display to the rest of the world Is that really and truly the only version of America that there is?

Can anyone else see this charade, found in using Hooter-style models to promote politics in the United States is demeaning, and potentially damaging to what we should be doing to encourage, promote and make equal women in this country?

I say one way to bring a positive focus on women is to elect a woman as presidential candidate.  Every father that has a daughter should be thinking about the future of their daughter.  Every mother that has a daughter should be promoting with a firm conviction and end to the use of women as mere sex objects?

It is time for the Majority to have a voice, Gender wars rage on!

http://www.portfolio.com/interactive-features/2008/03/Sexism-Gender-Wars/comments

The Gender war rages on so it seems. Women are the majority in this country, globally, but yet we remain oppressed. It took until 1920 for women to even get the right to vote, in 1963 an equal pay act was put into place it wasn’t until 2007, that Nancy Pelosi elevated to Speaker of the House, and now we have a strong viable candidate running for the White House. We still are scrambling with issues of sexual discrimination. If you follow the link provided in this blog you will be able to see how we are still a part of a “meat market” so it seems. Oppression, subjugation of women, child abuse, pedophilia in the form of polygamy, (over 500 women and children recently were freed from bondage from the hands of a polygamist colony in Texas) and a decline in the job market for women over the age of 40 along with their incomes is soaring. Poverty amongst women is over 60%, yet their male counterpart is far less. The disparity for women of color is even higher. We have an opportunity to band together and to forge onward as a people and change the understanding of women in our society once and for all and we are contemplating putting another man in the White House? We can forge an alliance and make a strong, bold statement that women do have a voice we are not just T & A! I heard recently that women are out waging men for the first time in history, that is if you are between the ages of 25 and 32 and are single living in the bigger cities. Well, with that said, when you mix in the 25-32 year old women and the many 45+’ers then you end assuming all kinds of discriminations going on, all at the hands of the men who still control the outcome of far too many women. Why are we turning over our rights to yet another man? Hillary Clinton has one huge redeeming quality, (amongst many)! She is a woman! She is dynamic leader, one with experience, a voice, backing, intelligence, articulation, control, and a solid supporter of family. That is more than evident! I say it is time to take the “gender war” to a whole new level. It is time to take control of “OUR HOUSE.” After all who cleans a house, keeps a house better than a woman?

A Nation Divided?

Dividing the Nation” Well what did you expect?”

For the first time in history America has diversity in the running. The United States is indeed an immature society, one that still labels people based on hair color, size, ethnicity, gender, age. Most do not say “the person that I met with today is a good person.” But, rather it is more common to say “that man/woman, I met with today is a really smart blond, or a nice brunette.” You get the idea.

So then why when Americans have been limited to only white males with an average age of 55-60, does anyone expect anything less? My greater concern is not who would be the best person for the job, as they are all qualified to one degree or another, or they would not have gotten as far as they have! But the bigger concern is who will stabilize this country? It is sad that we would even have to question whether or not we are ready for a “diverse” leader. After all aren’t we still quibbling about John F. Kennedy having been Catholic? It amazes me that a country that claims to be a “God-fearing” nation gets hung up on where or how a person worships. It isn’t enough that they do and that they can make a solid commitment to something. (How many have changed based on constituency?)

So getting back to the issue at hand; Americans are divided, sadly so. Isn’t that a predicted outcome of a two party system? If there are two or more choices the odds are that there will be division. Now the bigger issue is that there is an extreme diversity at hand. I fear that should Senator Clinton be elected, we will be dealing with concerns such as, her husband, her shoes, her skirt, her hair, again falling back into the quasi-caveman attitude of so many Americans. I would love to believe that we have advanced beyond that. That there is some degree of sophistication at work to advance our society, but women have only had the vote for less than one hundred years!

Should Senator Obama become our leader then we will unfortunately get bogged down with color, religion, race, etc. I am sad that that is a reality as well. We should be far beyond this, but prejudice reigns supreme in these parts! Forget about his brains, his articulate delivery, or compassion. Again, we are still a Very segregated society on all sides.

Then there is McCain, this man will have to undo the damage of the past 8 years. Will he have the support of the nation behind him? The dark mark on him is that he is a veteran, I have even heard some refer to his age? When did that happen, that age became a concern in politics? Yes, every veteran should be carrying with them a badge of honor bestowed upon the shoulders of every soldier, again for believing in something and committing to it to the end. At least there is a definition of who he is, where he came from, and what he believes.

This country that has experienced abundance for over two centuries is now faced with many dilemmas. The issue of immaturity amongst other nations of the world is evident. The division is proof of that. The shrinking dollar, the inhumane way in which we deliver food, medicine and opportunity to those who are marginalized, the way in which we are rapidly trying to take care of the immigration situation. The list is long of those areas that need addressing and we will be like the old story of the tortoise and the hare. We are the hare, the young stallion amongst older, wiser nations. As America has been off and running, the giant amongst giants, its prideful nature just might wake up 5 years from now and ask “what have we done gone and done this time.” A great deal of time was wasted it on jargon that has no place in a country where we profess to be the “great mix” and all are free. What will the media use to make it interesting?

The tortoise will be those overseas who are currently reaping the benefit and reward by opening trade, wait, wasn’t there a time when we looked down upon supporting financially, communist countries? That is another blog all together. So instead of putting a feather in the cap of capitalism or a rabbit foot into the suit pocket of democracy, put a tortoise shell comb in your hair imported from, where?
